Decks built for Iowa weather
A deck in central Iowa lives through hard freezes, spring downpours and summer sun. The footings have to go below the frost line so the deck does not heave, the ledger board has to be flashed where it meets the house so water stays out of the wall, and the framing has to be sized for snow sitting on it all winter. We build decks with stairs and railings that suit the house, and we look at where the gutters and downspouts above will drop their water before the first board goes down.
Room additions and garages
An addition has to look like it belongs. We frame the walls and roof, tie the new structure into the existing house, wrap and flash it, and finish it with siding, soffit, fascia and windows that match or complement what you have. Garages get the same care, from wall and roof framing to the overhead door opening and the gutters along the eaves. Planning matters most at the start: where the roof lines meet, where the water goes, and how the new space connects to the rest of the house.
3-season rooms and basement buildouts
A 3-season room gives you a screened or windowed space to use from spring through fall, out of the bugs and the rain. It sits between a deck and a full addition in scope. A basement buildout turns unfinished space into a family room, office or bedroom. We frame walls and soffits around ductwork and plan the layout with you. Finishing the outside the right way
Many projects split framing and exterior work between different crews. We keep going after the walls are up. New walls get house wrap and flashing tape at every opening, siding to match or complement the house, and trim that sheds water. The roof edge gets drip edge, fascia, vented soffit and gutters sized for the new roof area, with downspouts turned away from the new foundation. Doing it all in one project means fewer trades, fewer gaps between them, and one person, Luke, to call with questions.

Do I need a permit to build a deck in the Des Moines area?
Check with your city's building department before you build. Des Moines and each suburb set their own permit and inspection rules for decks, and those can depend on height, size and how the deck attaches to the house. Luke will talk through what your city asks for at the free estimate, and we plan the build around it.
Can you match the siding on a room addition to my house?
In most cases we can come close. We install LP SmartSide and vinyl siding, so we can match the profile and color on many homes or pick something that complements the original. Older or discontinued siding can be hard to match exactly, and Luke will tell you up front. Sometimes the cleanest look is new siding on the wall the addition joins.
What is the difference between a 3-season room and a sunroom?
A 3-season room is built for use from spring through fall. It keeps out bugs and rain but is not meant to be heated through an Iowa winter. A four-season sunroom is built and conditioned like the rest of the house for year-round use, which is a bigger project. Luke can talk through which one matches how you plan to use the space.
Do you build garages as well as room additions?
Yes. We frame attached and detached garages, from walls and roof framing to the overhead door opening, then finish them with siding, soffit, fascia and gutters.
