Gutters, Siding & Windows in Warren County

Warren County starts right at the south edge of Des Moines. The city even spills over the county line south of County Line Road, and Norwalk and Carlisle straddle the line too. Indianola is the county seat and the largest town, with 15,833 people at the 2020 Census. Carlisle is close to home for our crew, and Norwalk and Indianola are part of our normal run. We hang seamless gutters, clean and repair them, replace siding, and put in windows and doors across the county.

Warren County has plenty of water, from Lake Colchester in Norwalk to Lake Ahquabi near Indianola, and the trees along creeks and lakes drop a lot into gutters. Cottonwood is common along Iowa streams and lakes, and its cottony seeds fly from May through August. Silver maple is the most common native maple in Iowa. If your gutters fill twice a year, read how often to clean gutters in Iowa or ask Luke about a guard.

Indianola and the balloon festival town

Indianola, the Warren County seat, was founded in 1849 and hosts the National Balloon Classic, a nine-day summer festival. Simpson College has been part of town since 1860. Lake Ahquabi State Park has an Indianola address too. In Indianola the job on a house is the same as anywhere: keep water off the fascia board and away from the foundation, and keep the siding tight against wind.

Norwalk and the Lake Colchester shoreline

Norwalk grew about 43 percent from 2010 to 2020, from 8,945 people to 12,799. The Lakewood area wraps around man-made Lake Colchester, and nearly 600 homes line its south shore. Lake lots get wind off the water and leaves from the shoreline trees, so gutters with hidden hangers and a solid guard make a real difference. If your windows are drafty, see our page on window replacement in Norwalk.

Carlisle and the flood that started it

Carlisle was laid out in 1851, after the Flood of 1851 wiped out the town of Dudley. That history is a good reminder that water always finds the low spot. On a house, the low spot is often the corner where a downspout dumps next to the foundation. We extend downspouts, add splash blocks or pipe the water underground to a pop-up emitter well out in the yard so the basement stays dry.

Questions

Warren County Questions

More answers on our FAQ page and in the guides.

Does Flow Right do gutter cleaning in Indianola and Warren County?

Yes. We clean and flush gutters and downspouts in Indianola, Norwalk, Carlisle and the rest of Warren County, and we look for loose hangers, leaking seams and bad pitch while we are up there. Call or text (515) 901-3646 and tell us roughly how long it has been. Luke will tell you what it needs.

When does cottonwood fluff clog gutters near Lake Colchester and Warren County creeks?

Iowa State University Extension says eastern cottonwood releases its cottony seeds from May through August, and the tree is common along streams and lakes. That fluff mats in gutters and over guards in early summer. A micro-mesh guard sheds most of it, and a quick check after the seed drop keeps downspouts flowing.

Can you replace siding on a lake home in Norwalk?

Yes. We replace and repair vinyl and LP SmartSide siding, with new house wrap and flashing tape where the wall needs it. Lake homes in Norwalk catch steady wind off the water, so tight nailing, good J-channel and solid corner work matter. Luke will look at the whole wall and give you a free estimate.

Is Warren County close to Flow Right's shop?

Carlisle is close to home for us, and Norwalk and Indianola are part of our normal run from our shop in Mitchellville. We come out to the smaller Warren County towns regularly too. Call or text (515) 901-3646 with your address and we will tell you straight.
