Gutters, Siding & Windows in Carlisle

Carlisle exists because of a flood. Jeremiah Church had laid out a town called Dudley on low ground in Polk County, and the Flood of 1851 destroyed it. That same year, Church laid out Carlisle. Water still shapes the place, with the North and Middle Rivers on either side of town. On a house, the lesson is simple: rain has to go somewhere. Our job is to catch it at the roof edge and send it well away from your foundation.

Carlisle is close to home for us, a short drive from our shop in Mitchellville. Luke comes out himself, checks the fascia and soffit, measures every run and talks through gutter size, color and downspout spots. The town lies mostly in Warren County, with a piece in Polk. Call or text (515) 901-3646 for a free estimate.

Downspouts that carry water away

A downspout that dumps beside the foundation undoes the work of a good gutter. In Carlisle we can turn downspouts out over a splash block, add a hinged flip-up so you can still mow, or pipe the water underground to a pop-up emitter out in the yard where the grade allows. We look at where the ground slopes before we suggest anything. Read more about downspouts and underground drainage.

Cottonwood fluff and maple seeds

Iowa State University Extension says eastern cottonwood is common along streams, and its cottony seeds drift from May through August. Carlisle has two rivers at its edge. ISU also calls silver maple the most common native maple in Iowa, and those seeds pile into gutters fast. If your gutters choke every summer, a micro-mesh guard keeps out the small stuff that bigger screens let through. Luke can show you LeafFX and Gutter Topper side by side.

From the old mill to your siding

The Carlisle Flouring Mills, a four-story building, was finished in 1856. Buildings last when water stays off the walls. When we side a house here, the job starts with house wrap and flashing tape around each window, then vinyl or LP SmartSide lap with J-channel trimmed tight. The Summerset Trail ends in town, so plenty of folks will pass by and see the finished wall.

Questions

Carlisle Questions

More answers on our FAQ page and in the guides.

Can you run downspouts underground in a Carlisle yard?

Usually, yes. We pipe the downspout into buried tile and let the water come up through a pop-up emitter away from the house, as long as the yard slopes the right way. Before you plan to send water toward a street, sidewalk or neighbor, ask the City of Carlisle about local rules. Luke will point out the best spot when he visits.

Which gutter guard handles cottonwood fluff in Carlisle?

A fine micro-mesh guard handles cottonwood fluff and small maple seeds well, because the holes are too small for them to slip through. No guard means you never look at your gutters again, though. Our guide Are gutter guards worth it in Iowa? lays out the honest pros and cons.
