Gutters in West Des Moines, IA

Gutter work for West Des Moines homes

Rain off a two-story roof moves fast. When it sheets over the front lip of the gutter, it splashes the siding, soaks the mulch and finds its way to the basement wall. In West Des Moines, that is the call we hear most. Sometimes the gutter is just full. Sometimes it is too small, pitched the wrong way or pulling off the fascia board. Luke comes out, looks at the whole roof edge and tells you which one it is.

If new gutters make sense, we form 5-inch or 6-inch K-style seamless gutters on site, hang them on hidden hangers and set the pitch toward each outlet. You can read the full process on our seamless gutter installation page. If the gutters are sound and only clogged, we can clean them out, flush the downspouts and point out any loose seams or end caps we spot along the way.

West Des Moines is part of our normal run from our shop in Mitchellville, on the east side of the metro. Most of the city sits in Polk County, with part in Dallas County and small pieces reaching into Warren and Madison. Text a photo of the problem to (515) 901-3646 and we will set a time for a free estimate. Our West Des Moines service page lists the other work we do here.

What we keep in mind in West Des Moines

Creek and river ground

The Raccoon River and Walnut Creek both run through West Des Moines, and both have gone over their banks more than once. Homes on low ground near the water have less room for error. If roof water lands at the foundation, the soil there is already wet. We look at where each downspout empties, and when a splash block is not enough we can carry the water underground to a pop-up emitter farther out in the lawn.

From Valley Junction to Jordan Creek

The city began as Valley Junction, a railroad town at the meeting of several rail lines that incorporated in 1893, and Historic Valley Junction is still its old business district. Out west, Jordan Creek Town Center opened in 2004 as the largest mall in the state. Wherever your house sits between the two, we size gutters and downspouts to the roof in front of us: its square footage, its pitch and how many valleys feed one corner.

Seeds, fluff and summer hail

Silver maple is the most common native maple in Iowa, and eastern cottonwood grows along streams and drops its cottony seed from May through August. Either one can plug an outlet in a single week. Storms add to it: a storm report logged quarter-size hail in West Des Moines on July 20, 2026. After a storm we can check your gutters for dents, loose hangers and clogs, then write up an estimate you can use.

Do you clean gutters in West Des Moines or only install them?

Both. If your gutters are in good shape and simply full, we can clean them out by hand, flush the downspouts and tell you about any loose seams, end caps or hangers we see. If they keep overflowing even when they are clean, the problem is size, pitch or outlets, and Luke will walk you through the fix.

How do I know if my West Des Moines gutters are too small?

Watch them in a hard rain. If water pours over the front at one corner or near a valley while the rest of the run looks fine, that section is getting more water than it can carry. A 6-inch gutter with larger downspouts often solves it. Our 5-inch vs 6-inch gutter guide shows how sizing works.

Can you run downspouts underground in West Des Moines?

Sure. We can pipe a downspout into underground tile and carry the water out to a pop-up emitter in the lawn, well away from the foundation. Buried utility lines get marked through Iowa One Call before anyone digs, and some yards have easements or HOA rules, so we go over those with you first.

Is West Des Moines in Polk County or Dallas County for a gutter project?

Mostly Polk County. Part of the city is in Dallas County, and small portions reach into Warren and Madison counties. The county does not change how we hang gutters, but it can change which offices you deal with, so check with the City of West Des Moines if your project needs paperwork.
